Wall soundproofing: stop noise from next door
If you can hear conversations, TVs or music from the adjacent dwelling, there is a solution. Soundproofing means blocking airborne sound transmission through partition walls and party walls. It is not about improving how a room sounds inside, but about preventing noise from passing through.
With the Fastmount Stratlock system you can soundproof an entire wall without masonry, dust, rubble or weeks of construction work. The installation is clean, fast and reversible: if you ever need to access the original wall or replace the insulation, simply remove the panels.
How it works: 5 steps, 2 tools
- Prepare the surface. The wall must be clean and dry. It does not need to be perfectly flat — the system compensates for minor irregularities.
- Install acoustic insulation. Fix a layer of mineral wool, rock wool or high-density acoustic foam to the wall. This material absorbs and blocks sound waves. It can be glued or mechanically fixed.
- Screw in U-shaped metal profiles. Over the insulation, fix horizontal aluminium or galvanised steel U-profiles every 40–60 cm. These profiles serve as guide and support for the Stratlock clips.
- Snap the SL-FB1 clips into the profiles. The SL-FB1 female clips snap into the U-profile under pressure — no additional screws needed. The SL-M18 male clips are screwed into the back of the decorative panel.
- Mount the decorative panel. Present the panel against the wall and the male clips click into the female clips. Panel fitted, professional finish. That simple.
Tools required: a drill and a screwdriver. Nothing else.
The Stratlock system: SL-FB1
The SL-FB1 female clip (Stratlock Female Front Mount) is the key component. Designed for front mounting on metal profiles, it supports loads of up to 18 kg per clip when combined with the SL-M18 male clip. The locking mechanism prevents accidental panel release, yet allows removal by sliding laterally — for instance, to inspect hidden services or replace insulation.
This system is used in luxury yachts, hotels, airports and hospitals worldwide. Manufactured in New Zealand by Fastmount and certified for demanding environments.
Advantages over traditional construction
| Traditional construction | With Fastmount Stratlock |
|---|---|
| Weeks of work | Hours or 1–2 days |
| Dust, rubble, noise | Clean, quiet installation |
| Irreversible | Removable and reusable panels |
| Requires skilled tradesperson | Any installer with a drill |
| No subsequent wall access | Maintenance access at any time |
Maintenance and access
One of the great advantages is that panels can be removed without tools: simply slide them laterally to release from the profile. This provides access to insulation, hidden wiring or pipes at any time, without damaging either the panel or the wall. After inspection or repair, the panel clicks back into its original position.
Alternative method: Fastmount Stratlock rail system
There is an even more versatile alternative: the Stratlock rail system (SL-RLE). Instead of using generic U-profiles, a lightweight aluminium rail extrusion is mounted directly on the wall. This structure clamps the insulation material against the surface and simultaneously provides anchor points for decorative panels.
How it works:
- Mount the SL-RLE rail directly on the wall, securing the acoustic insulation beneath it.
- Snap in the clips: SL-FB1 for front mounting or SL-FA for side mounting — both snap into the rail extrusion under pressure, no additional screws required.
- Add the panels. The male clips on the back of the panel click directly into the female clips on the rail. Click and done.
The rail system creates a complete framework that:
- Holds the insulation firmly against the wall
- Provides mounting points for decorative or acoustic panels
- Allows easy creation of volumes — you could even build built-in wardrobes or drawer units using the rail structure as a skeleton
- Corner connectors (SL-RCF90 for 90° corners, SL-RCA180 for straight joins) allow creating continuous rail paths around corners, between walls and ceilings
The method is equally simple: mount the rail, snap in the clips, add panels. The rail system is ideal for larger surfaces and when you need to create architectural volumes beyond flat walls.
Who is this solution for?
- Flat owners who want to stop hearing their neighbours
- Music and recording studios requiring isolation
- Offices in old buildings with thin partition walls
- Hotels and holiday apartments wanting to improve guest experience
- Clinics and medical practices requiring acoustic privacy
