Acoustic retrofit in hotels: improving soundproofing without closing rooms
For a hotel operations director or facility manager, the word "refurbishment" usually translates into a very specific bill: floors out of service, building noise disturbing the guests who stay, debris and a loss-of-earnings invoice that grows every day.
When that refurbishment is acoustic —because reviews mention noise between rooms or from the corridor—, the conflict is even greater: you intervene to improve comfort, but the process destroys it temporarily. The acoustic retrofit without building work breaks that circle. The key lies not only in the absorbent material, but in how the panel is fixed.
01Why traditional retrofit closes rooms
The classic method —screwed wall linings, permanent gluing or visible framing— brings three problems for an operating hotel:
- Drilling and dust. Screwing directly creates building dust that forces you to empty the room and the adjoining ones.
- Single-use, irreversible adhesive. A glued panel cannot be removed without damaging it. Any change means ripping out and starting again.
- Visible framing. Frames and screws spoil the interior design.
The concealed fixing of Fastmount —of nautical origin, where the panel must be accessible yet withstand constant vibration— reverses that logic. A male clip and a female clip snap together: the panel sits perfectly aligned, without a single visible screw, and it comes off without tools or with a suction cup. The refurbishment moves forward floor by floor, while the rest of the hotel keeps earning.
Adhesive-mount male clips: no drilling into the panel
In an occupied building, you often do not want to —or cannot— drill. The adhesive-mount male clips are fixed to the back of the panel with high-performance structural adhesive (epoxy or polyurethane), without drilling the panel and without dust. The key nuance compared with traditional gluing: here the adhesive holds the clip, not the panel. The female clip is always fixed mechanically to the structure, and the panel remains removable and reusable.
02Access to services and maintenance without building work
Behind its finishes, a hotel is a tangle of services: air conditioning, plumbing, electrics, fire detection and protection. With accessible concealed fixing, the acoustic panel becomes an invisible access hatch:
- The affected panel is removed without tools.
- You reach the slab or the wall to carry out the work.
- The same panel is put back. No debris, no repainting.
This also solves the damaged panel: a knock from a trolley or a stain is solved by replacing a single piece, not by redoing the entire wall.

03CTE DB-HR: meeting the minimum and exceeding it for reputation
The Spanish Building Code (CTE), Basic Document DB-HR sets sound insulation requirements. In a retrofit it is advisable to check the exact scope with the project management team, but it is the reference framework.
The business case goes beyond compliance. In hospitality, noise is one of the complaints that hurts reviews the most. Exceeding the DB-HR minimum is not just about meeting the standard: it protects your online reputation and your average room rate.
Don't talk to me about decibels, talk to me about the day a fan coil breaks down behind the panel. With the traditional method I close the room for three days; with this, a few hours.
04Circular economy and ESG criteria
A panel fitted with concealed fixing is removable and reusable, unlike a glued panel, which is single-use material. When a floor is remodelled, the panels can be recovered and reinstalled in another area instead of ending up as waste. This circular economy approach fits with the hotel chains' ESG policies and with frameworks such as EPDs and AENOR criteria.
